In today's media-saturated and data-driven landscapes, visual literacy is no longer an optional skill; it is a core necessity. In the Visual Literacy course at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, my objective was to explore the theoretical and research-based foundations of visual communication while developing practical competencies in instructional design, development, and visual media production. This experience served as a creative space to critically evaluate user experience (UX) concepts, emergent data storytelling strategies, and my own pedagogical assumptions as an instructional designer.

Designed to bridge the gap between UDL theory and active implementation, this Open Educational Resource (OER) provides instructional leaders with a scalable framework for inclusive professional development. Built around a two-phase pedagogical cycle of Individuation (choice-based discovery) and Pluralization (collaborative synthesis), the artifact moves instructional leaders from passive lecture recipients to active designers during a hands-on professional development workshop.Β
The mockup below demonstrates the learner-facing interface of the LMS module, showing how course content, timed activities, and choice-based pathways are presented within a clean, navigable structure that mirrors the pedagogical intent of the framework itself. The finished toolkit will feature a platform-agnostic LMS module and a custom Google Opal AI companion that acts as a dynamic lesson-planning partner, significantly lowering the workload required to build engaging, multimodal learning experiences.Β
Grounded in UI/UX wireframing and visual communication principles, this artifact operationalizes visual literacy by translating complex pedagogical theoretical models into intuitive, accessible interface elements. The layout leverages intentional visual hierarchy, functional spatial design, and multi-modal media to enhance learner comprehension, focus, and retention.
